The results of GMB’s TTo contracts survey are now in and include
-
-
- 75% of members are experiencing financial difficulties because of low pay caused by term time only contracts
- 85% they are worried about their future financial security and pension due to term time only working
- 78% of respondents admitted they’ve considered leaving their roles because of the low pay caused by term time only contracts
- 90% believe TTO contracts are fundamentally unfair
-
Term time only contracts usually require full time school support staff to work 190 days + 5 INSET days, which equals 39 weeks. Teachers also have to work 190 days + 5 INSET days (39 weeks) but they are not on 39 week contracts. Teachers work directed time of 1265 hours per year, which is 32.5 hours per week over a 39-week period and this is the same as full time school support staff. It is simply unfair to have such inequality between two groups of workers in the same workplace and given how the role of support staff has changed so dramatically, it’s time to address this.
We are holding a webinar on Wednesday 18th September at 5pm to discuss the unfairness of term-time only contracts and look at how GMB members can come together to campaign to change these. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. I hope you will be able to join us. Please register in advance for this webinar at https://gmb-org-uk.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_1HdfRd18RTqEw4tg73AYew. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
If you have a question, please send it to schoolsteamlondon@gmb.org.uk.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you on the 18th September.
