‘Undervalued’ Foreign Office security guards call for a living wage
Security guards working at FCDO Services, Hanslope Park and employed by Allied Universal G4S have experienced a real-term pay cut, resulting in them being paid below living wage.
Allied Universal G4S took over the contract in July 2023 and since then has failed to provide security guards with any wage increase. Consequently, over 90% of these guards have been paid minimum wage since April 2024. Read more here.

Outsourced Peterborough Council workers have rejected a ‘turkey’ of a pay award – sparking fears of industrial action.

GMB Pregnancy Loss in the Workplace Charter
In 2023, GMB London Region moved a successful motion at GMB Congress on Pregnancy Loss in the Workplace, including a call to produce a model charter.
A key call of the charter is for employers to provide at least one month’s paid leave to those who lose a pregnancy, and two weeks for partners/co-parents. Read more here.
Thames Water
Since privatisation, there has been considerable underinvestment in infrastructure, leading to frequent raw sewage leaks that pollute the environment.
Investors have withdrawn billions from water companies, while these companies have accumulated substantial debt.
This financial burden is often passed on to consumers, resulting in higher bills. The industry needs massive investment to modernise infrastructure and address these issues, but this has been slow to materialise.

Thames Water ‘in crisis’ with rising debt and crumbling infrastructure
On 21st November, GMB London Region reacted today to reports that Thames Water had secured approval for a £3 billion loan, which could incur as much as £800 million in interest and other fees. Read more here.
